My moment happened one rainy day when I was going to my nephew’s playoff baseball game from my office in center city Philadelphia. It was in a town a little west of Philadelphia and I wanted to save time so I decided to cut through the city. Bad move because Philadelphia still has trolley tracks, wet ones that day. I was going down the street when my rear wheel got caught in the trolley track, but the front wasn’t in it. I might not have noticed except the tracks took a right and I wanted to go straight. At least my front tire wanted to go straight, the rear wanted to take a right. It felt like my back tire was going to pass my front. It was a very weird feeling. I remember it was sort of a surreal moment. After the initial panic, once I realized that I was probably going down I got really calm. I remember wondering how much it would hurt, then thinking if the bike was going to get damaged. Next thing I knew the tire came out of the track and I was OK, I didn’t go down like I thought.
About a half mile down the road there was some construction. They had grinded the road down in preparation of repaving it. I was on the grove/grinded road going down a hill and at the bottom was a red light. I started to break and nothing happened, I was just skidding across the tops of the groves. I actually started into the intersection when the light turned green for me; so once again I was one lucky SOB.
I finally made it to the game and his team actually won. It was an all around lucky day.
Mine happened when two horses ran across the road in front of me. They just came out of nowhere. I was going about 70 and managed to hit the six foot gap between the lead horse and the follower. Ruined a damn fine pair of new underware on that one.
Thunderstorm in downtown St. Louis Freeway at night, couldn't see crap, had a cager cut in front of me to exit and fortunately I was traveling at a safe speed and distance. I kept my eye on him knowing he might just do it....pulled off a bit later to spend the night.....no more riding at nigh in the rain!
Mine was watching a cager turn left directly into my path. I braked, tried to avoid collision, and hit head on. Went flying through the air like a helicopter, clipped a pole and landed in the road. Oh yeah, somewhere in there I probably S#@t myself. Oh well all is good now, still slightly disabled from a broken back, but it matches my mental disability
Rode for 2 1/2 years in CA without a car so this list is long and scary. I hit an owl that swooped down on me and almost got plastered by a cager driving the wrong way on the Esocondido freeway. It was a divided highway and it was 2 oclock in the morning and I was in the far left lane, I came up to the bottom of a hill on the freeway and for some reason I decided to move to the right side of the freeway. As I crested the hill a car came on my side of the divided highway going the wrong way. I still to this day don't know why I changed lanes but I guess the man above wasn't done with me yet. To this point still the most scared I've ever been on a bike.
A little off topic but tmitchellof PG that is the niceset Fatboy I've ever seen good job.
