I did that once a few years ago, found a womens purse, called the gestapo, and before it was all said and done. The cop treated me like a criminal, and said that while the older lady was standing there, that if any money were missing I would be held accountable. My answer back to him was,Too Bad! The next time I find something like that there will be no money and the law will certainly never be called again. For that matter, the way the world is going and the sue crazy nature of people. He said back to me,Sorry you feel that way.Go figure.
Look at it as an illegal imigrant giving back to his community!
EXACTLY. While there was ID in the wallet, tracking it back to the owner, is going to be a major headache, if not nearly impossible. Long distance out of country phone calls to try to get the number to the local church? You would have to make Lord only knows how many phone calls just find somebody that speaks english, so you could explain to them what you were trying to do.
$40.00 in long distance calls on my phone, to return $200.00? Not likely. You could turn it in to the local Police, but if it wasn't picked up there within 6 months, the wallet and ID would be destroyed, and the $$ added to the local City's general fund.

If I found a wallet with $20: Drop it in the mailbox.
If I found $20 (loose): Keep it.
If I found $24,000 cash in a bank deposit envelope: Keep it. The only person who would have that kind of scratch is a drug dealer. And they went to the movies instead of the bank..... stupid drug dealer.
Maybe the dude was on his way to see his dying grandmother and was going to use the money to buy her flowers and something nice for her...You did what you thought was the right thing to do; if karma catches up to you, hopefully it will be good karma. People will flock to any BS thread to project their sanctimonious opinion.
