RE: What is your RPM at 70 MPH?
ORIGINAL: cwilks

About 2700. Dropped down from around 3200-3300 when I did the BDL belt primary drive conversion.
Eyespy,
That's a huge drop with just a primary change--did it effect acceleration in the lower gears? I'm sure it was cheaper than a 6-speed
Yes, there was a small loss in low gear acceleration. Below is a thread related to the changes, including the deceased off the line accel, and also the fact that prior to this change, I was considering a 6 sp OD upgrade, but once I put the belt primary in, I no longer saw the need.
Since the BDL conversion makes for a taller effective final drive ratio, there is no avoiding the change in acceleration in all gears. An OD tranny that only adds a taller OD 6th, would avoid affecting all the other gear ratios. I wanted to the belt primary for other reasons, and since I didn't expect the change in the effective final drive ratio, I still intended to eventually go for the Baker 6 speed. But, once I did the BDL, I saw that there is no need for a 6 sp OD now. I will eventually add some HP and torque, to make up for and surpass the decreased low gear pull, and still have the advantages of the belt primary.
some people on the boards believe running in 4th all day long at 70-85mph seems like a grand idea, gotta be turning 5200rpm or more!!!! [sm=badidea.gif]
me, i have a 06 fxdwg 6spd and 2600 at 70mph (oh, yeah. IN SIXTH GEAR!!!)

4th is 80mph at 4000rpm. 6th is 70mph at 2600, drop to 5th if you want acceleration, fuel economy, or cool running........
