Default Riser bushings

My riser bushings are getting pretty worn and letting the bars sag some. I have looked on several Harley parts places, and J&P has the poly bushings for $10.00. These are just the bushing without the washers or steel tube that goes on the inside. Most of the others I have found include those items, but are anywhere from $25.00 to $50.00. I should be able to reuse the washers and tube shouldn't I? Are the higher priced poly bushings any better than the cheap ones? I know some of you have replaced these before, so I thought I would ask here. This is on my 99 Softail Custom. Thanks.

Mine are sloppy too. Been meaning to replace them. As to your question, if everything does not match up length wise it may have an affect on the bars. For as long as they last, I'm thinkin I'll go the whole nine yards with all new, then you know you're good to go. jmo. btw, 90 fxrs-sp

Have you guys tried tightening them up. Got 16" apes on mine for 5 years and just need a little tightening up maybe once a year.

As long as the washers are in decent shape, you only need the bushings.
Most stock washers are a zinc look and are usually worn looking by the time replacement is needed. So people replace them when they change out the bushings.
I went with the poly bushings that came with Arlen Ness flush mounted kit.

I dont believe the poly bushings have the metal sleeve in the middle... Just did mine, used the Harley polys just because I called and they were in stock... Came with new washers, but if my memory is serving me correctly, there are no sleeves.

Thanks guys. I am going by the Harley shop tomorrow, and I will check them out. Looks like they come with new chrome washers, and even though they are $40.00, by the time I pay shipping it's not a lot different. Sometimes it pays to go whole hog.

You can use the old sleeves and all the poly are the same just how much mark up do you wish to pay .

PS You need the sleeves don't run without them , they keep the bolts from being tightened too far down they act as a pre-sized spacer in that regard .

I just replaced the riser bushings in my shovel with poly. BIG difference. The ones in it were the originals!

Well guys, I picked up a set with the chrome washers and new spacers at the Harley shop today, got them installed, and what a difference. They feel much more solid, but no vibration. My old rubber ones were so bad that my bars were moved forward a good inch with the new poly bushings. So if you still have the rubber ones, I highly recommend you try the poly's. They are a great improvement.
