Dude, really?

Judging from your screename, I'm assuming you're from Texas. When was the last time you crossed the border over into Ciudad Juarez to have a nice dinner?

Read this article: http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/new...ls-for-safety/

Still think it's a perfectly safe country? I mean, only 1900 people were killed in Ciudad Juarez last year…big improvement from 2010; when 3000 people were killed there.

The cops are terrified of the drug cartels, and they are basically powerless against them. Even the State Department has issued a travel warning about Mexico. Other countries on the list (to name a few), are North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and a handful of others. To view the list look here:
http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_p...w/tw_1764.html

So WTF do I know? I live 15 minutes from the Mexican border, and have been across the border more times than I can count…before all of this Cartel violence got out of hand. This isn't 10 years ago when the worst you had to worry about was some corrupt policía judicial. There is real violence going on down there now, and I would hate to see some innocent gringo tourist getting caught up in it.

I used to love to shop there, eat there, go to clubs there, but in the last couple of years, the risk just isn't worth it to me anymore. If that makes me a *****, then so be it.

Ciudad Juarez about six months ago. Nuevo Laredo last month. Mexico City, Cuernavaca and Acapulco within the last year.

If you are uncomfortable crossing over, don't do it. I understand and certainly don't blame you. Unlike you most of the fearful posters live far from the border and probably have never been close to Mexico but are basing their advice on news commentaries from sources like Fox.

I have been there. Yes it is a serious problem down there but if you know more or less what is going on, and has traditionally gone on but on a smaller scale in the past, the cartels are killing each other and corrupt involved police officers. Honest police officers and military have also been killed in confrontations with the cartels. However, usually when a police chief or other officer is assassinated he was in the pay of an opposing cartel. I am over simplifying it but very few innocent people are getting beheaded or murdered.

As someone earlier posted you can go to advrider.com and read about riders going to and through Mexico without serious incident all the time. There are also quite a few Harley riders living in Mexico and surviving quite well. And so it goes.

Hey, I don't think I would like riding in NYC or LA but it is fine for many others.

Ride safe.

Just like if someone wanted to ride in NY I would direct them to the Adirondack mtns or the Catskills and not the South Bronx.

I don't think anyone would recommended cruising Cuidad Juarez for a weekend.

However like I said there are clubs or yuppy BMW riders who tour Mexico, Latin and South America and somehow live to tell the tale. Are we really bringing up the jet skiing incident? I mean **** 1000 times worse than that happens in the USA every day. Remember the little girl raped and buried alive in Florida? Remember the nut who set the woman on fire alive in an elevator in Brooklyn? Seriously we have tens of thousands of murder right here at home.

I spent two months in Playa Del Carmen in 1979. There was nothing there. Rented a palapa on the beach for $125 for two months. Got to be good friends with the army patrol, they never hassled me. Had some great weed and spent every day snorkling and drinking beer.

There were maybe 500 Mexicans living there, tops and a couple dozen gabachos...

And that's why you should come to Canada to spend your tourist dollars. We don't have guns and murders on a bad year number in the dozens.

If you're going to come there are a few things you should know:

Going out clubbing might involve baby seals if you go too far north.
If a mirror is broken off a parked car by a malicious kid he's labelled a vandal and makes the local news.
Don't drink more than 2 beers! We don't want to have to carry you back to the tent.
There are 4 litres to a gallon. Don't run out of gas.
Canadian women may look sexy but they can carry a 24 box of beer at least 2 miles through woods and don't like being disappointed in the sack. Mess with that at your own peril.

I met a Mexican up here once. He was freezing and lost and looking for the US border.

Yeah lucky us. They left as they got tired of the locals spitting on them. I believe they shipped Snucky and clowns to Jersey City.
