Just got home from Isla Mujeres and that little island is nothing but tourists in golf carts and on mopeds. I was part of the golf cart crowd and only once did I nearly get creamed! Had a blast!

Or I could just be making that up...

No, it's true. I heard about it at 4am in a bar in Juarez (just before the shoot out).

LoL. Great! Emasculate the guy by throwing him on something that can't get out of it's own way and screams (North) American. Then throw him at the hoards of Narcos roaming the country.

I've heard the Yucatan is safer for Americans than some other parts of Mexico. Is that true? I also just read something that says that US motorcycle insurance is not good down there and you need Mexican insurance?

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!

PS--My wife and I only speak a few words of Spanish.
Harely says $$$$$$ in mexico. $$$$ = kidnapping, kidnapping= ransome, and so on. I would not do it (jmho).

I live approximately 20 miles north of the AZ/Mex line. It is dangerous as hell out here in our own territory in spite of what the national media tells you. South of the line it is a hell of a lot worse. There are bandidos (yes, really) who prey mainly on groups of illegals heading norte but they don't mind messing up a gringo and raping a gringa if they get the chance. The cartel soldiers will shoot even if you just accidently ride too close to one of their ops, especially if the area is somewhat isolated. The cops might be the worst of all. They will rob you of every bit of cash, bank card and credit cards. They will confiscate your bike and hold you until someone comes up with whatever payment they demand. Too many nice places in the U.S. or Canada to face the risk down there.

.......

I should have known that sooner or later this would turn into an anti- motorcycle club thread.

But what about the Mexican banditos? Aren't they still misbehaving down there?

I don't think he is talking about the MC with the name Banditos. I think he is using the Mexican word for Bandits.

I was making a joke. The Mexican word for bandits is banditos. The motorcycle club is named Bandidos. Comprende?
