Reckon could have just said Battery, Tires, Oil and nut and bolts Should be checked before the 1st ride after winter storage.

Really I hope all that is common sense in here. But, I know there's all levels of mechanical ability in here. So I reckon it needs to be said.

Shu, Might have added these in the article also.

Check Spokes on those with wire wheels and brake levels and brake pads.

Also, grease the front fork. I do it at every oil changes but also after sitting all winter.

And also, Check Ur plates and Insurance, that all is up to date and paid. before taking her out.

Alot of those are things people should check on a regular basis but yeah if it has been sitting definately. 10K on an oil change, not even if I was using syn, 5K tops, but since I still use dino I will stick w/ 2500-3000. HD does recommend 20/50 in all holes but only syn I use 20/50 in the crankcase, mobile 75/90 gear lube in the trns and hd primary fluid in the big twin primaries, and the sporty because it only has 2 holes. As for a tender, especially in the summer if it sits. Summer heat will drain a battery quicker than cold. Yeah cold starts need more amps but heat devastates batteries even in cordless tools. Otherwise good reminders

Good article Schu... seems to me a quite a few riders I run into have handling problems are due to low tire pressure or worn tires, something they seem to neglect checking.

Yeah I leaned about doing the spokes the after letting the dealer do the first 3 services.
I was cleaning the bike getting her ready for the second YR start up and while cleaning the wheels I felt several spokes loose as I wiped them off. After checking them I have 11 on the front wheel and nine on the rear that was loose and she was just serviced (10K) right before I put her to bed the previous fall.

Now I check them at least twice a yr. adjust as needed.

It is surprising to see just how much basic maintenance is neglected... Thanks for the reminder!
