We did Rt 9 good road and you can move along pretty good. If you are using a GPS on NS becareful, it can take you off the good (sometimes good) road to gravel.
If you want to go off the main roads and use some back roads just as the locals at a pub. There is always someone who will tell ya.
We are in the planning process for our long summer ride. We live in central Pennsylvania and at this time we are thinking of riding up to Nova Scotia. The riding on the island looks nice with plenty to see, not too mention the seafood.
Has anyone on here ever ridden in Nova Scotia and if so is it worth the trip?
The other option is northern Michigan over to Wisconsin.
Come on up man
The riding here is beautiful, but as already posted can be rough in spots. If you think you might get to Halifax send me a post. If i am around I will be your tour guide for some nice rides.
Send away for the Nova Scotia motorcycle guide. This is an awesome book. The two people that create it harold and Wendy are True Bikers and would love to hear from you. website- http://www.motorcycletourguidens.com/
I did the ride to Nova Scotia in 2006. I left Central Canada (Saskatchewan) and headed south to South Dakota then East to Maine and up to New Brunswick on I95. Once in Nova Scotia I traveled th e East coast from Halifax up to Sidney and around the Cabit trail, absolutely one of the most picturesque rides I have ever taken. I stopped at Glasglow and then took the ferry to Prince Edward Island and then took the Confederation bridge back to New Brunswick (that was neat). I would take my time and not rush things cuz it is beautiful!
Hope you enjoy your trip, I sure did. Total travelled 12,000kms or roughly 7,000 miles
Seems most of the folks have provided you solid info, one extra word of caution though, watch for the deer in this part of the country , especially around dusk, and these deer are not your typical small ones either, and Cabot Trial is absolutely scenic , but also has Moose, in the region. Not really scary but you need to be aware, when travelling on the roads. Any shoreline ride will astound you and folks are generally pretty darn friendly all over the entire province so you can't go wrong there. Wharf Rat Rally takes place near Digby, awesome seafood and some of the best bed & Breakfast stops to be found anywhere, but reserve as these are plenty popular. You can't go wrong with this location.
You won't regret the trip one bit. Absolutely beautiful. We have a cottage in Parkers Cove Nova Scotia. Wife and Kids spend all summer there! I ride back and forth twice usually..Hey, Somebody has to work! Anyway, I usually cross the border in Calais Maine and pick up the Ferry from St. John New Brunswick to Digby N.S. 2 1/2 hour ferry ride and its fun! If you go later in August you could attend the Digby Warf Rat Rally! Lots of fun...http://www.wharfratrally.com/
Maybe we can get together for a beer and a haddie bit dinner next summer ? As I mentioned, we have a cottage in Parkers Cove.

Maxima, if you heading to NS through Maine, skip RT1 in Southern Maine. It's a drag.
Take I95 to Bangor and take Rt.9 to Calais ME/St. Stephen NB. Make sure you got 120 miles in the tank out of Bangor. No ferry service to NS from Maine anymore. You ride it. There is a ferry from St. John NB to Digby NS. I'd avoid the big cities of Quebec. Quebec is tricky. Nova Scotia is a real nice place.

Took a 5 day, 2 up road trip with my wife, from Mass. in August of 2010
Rt.9 out of Calais, entered NS in River John area. Took the coastal route all around the whole province. Been to NS many times, but first time on the bike.
Great ride, lots to see, no bad places to eat. Make sure you do the Cabot Trail and don't miss Peggy's Cove. You won't regret this ride!!!
