Hi all,
I just bought and brought home a 2012 nightster (pre-owned) from a dealership a couple weeks ago.
I dont know if I'm being too persnickety or not, but my bike wont start right away most times... The first few days I had it, it started perfect every time.
Now it often will make a "clicking" noise and not turn over for a bit and then, eventually (within a minute or two), Ill try it again and it will click a couple times and then fire right up.
Im new to Harley's but have rode motocross my whole life.. Am i dong something wrong? Is this normal?
Thanks in advance!
Start with the simple things first:
1. Check your battery terminal connections.
2. Have your battery tested.
3. Check your spark plugs and regap them.
4. Check your ignition coil
5. Run some injector cleaner through it
If you still have some warranty left, go see the dealer. I know you posted that it was pre-owned, but check with the dealer once you have it going again. Let us know what it was. Oh, check to see if you have any codes that may show a sensor problem.
Buy a smart charger to keep the battery fully charged. Now that that is out of the way. Have you checked your cables to the battery to make sure they are tight? Put a full charge on the battery then try to start it or take it to a auto parts store and have it load tested. If the battery has drained too low you'll probably need a new battery.
