I've got an '08 Wide Glide with a little over 120K miles on her, always well maintained and has always run well with just a stage 1.
At 110K she started using a little oil, by 120K she failed a leak down test. Extended warranty covered new jugs and pistons, so I upgraded to a 103 and had cams added. When the cam cavity was opened they found the bearings, timing chain and oil pump worn - warranty covered it. Pulling the inner primary to replace the worn belt showed the SE compensator was worn and the stator was leaking - warranty again.
Again, this bike was well taken care of, but not babied in any way. It's been a great bike and will be for a long time to come and it's never going to be sold.

It's a hustle just like mary kay cosmetics , does absolutely nothing any other decent brand name oil you can pick anywhere does . Hype that's all . I worked for the outfit the gov. used to set all the API service ratings you see on the labels of oil like SE , SD , SJ , CD ect. . Head chemist gave me an eye opening education , I can tell you for a fact when a bottling batch for a grade of oil was running there where on the average 5 major brand name and several " economy " brands coming off the same tanks and bottling line .
Smoke & mirrors people Amsoil was the first full ester based synthetic oil that was it's real claim to fame and had a good market but now a number of companies produce the same thing without all hype and secrete hand shake nonsense , works but so will a lot of other products it's just brand marketing brainwashing .
the only thing i'm keeping in the back of my mind for my '04 is the cam chain tensioners. with all the topics and talk about those things, i'm so paranoid about them - and my bike only has 14,500 miles!! Mostly paranoid because I want this engine to last as long as possible - don't want some stupid little pad shavings floating around to thousands of useful miles off my bike!
TwiZted- Thanks, just was wondering. Unfortunatley the choices around here for syn oil are pretty slim. Even local indy tries pushin' the HD oil 20/50 for all 3 holes. or Amsoil which is what I've been using with 75/90 for tranny- that's the 2 to pick from.. Sad but true...
When I split the cases, I'll say I've had to rebuild it, and so far there's no indication that I'm anywhere near that point yet and just passed 104,000 miles.
( But your bike will never get as far as my bike has unless you use the oil that I use..... )
