Just because someone doesn't agree with your one size fits all solution doesn't mean that they advocate driving under the influence. Some of us actually prefer a debate with possibility of solving the problem efficiently. Nice way of saying you can't kill them all and I don't want to be taxed to feed them while punishment doesn't fix the problem. I also know that most programs don't fix the problem. I do think there are simpler solutions to solving the drunk driving problem for the dumb *** but the repeat alcoholic/druggie is more difficult to solve. The present system is set up to make money for the justice system while not solving the carnage. You could be categorized also.
I hope the old timer will be ok.

He will end up with some probation. Rams player Leonard Little hit and killed a lady- he was drunk and got 4 years probation. After that he got another dwi and got 2 more years probation. The legal system is different for celebrities.
