Tack wont work
Wow....did you check ANYthing? Follow "KISS" rule (Keep It Simple Stupid). Check wiring connections, follow wires or cables from "tach" all the way to ends, look for breaks, kinks, etc.... Check instrument fuse, I think 15 amp. Try searching these forums for tachometer wiring diagrams. Beyond that....buy a manual for your bike, best $40 bucks you'll ever spend. I'm assuming since you posted that you want to help yourself and fix it yourself. I have no tach and don't miss it..My motor lets me know when to shift(no, I don't smack the rev limiter). Good luck...
Wow!! Winter must be eating at some guys. Nice responses....and who really care that it's his 1st post. Being new to the forum can be confusing, but let's try to help, at least. The post by cajzmere is most helpful but the other 2 are a bit shy of courtesy or information....not even a question asking what the symptoms are.
So...Welcome to the forum bear1856. When you post a problem, you should actually let us know what the symptoms are. For example...Does the tach even register or does the needle jump around? The more info you can give us the better we can help. Also, you can try the Search bar at the top of each page to find the posts related to similar problems.

Rough start for the newbie.
A few pointers from a fellow newbie, the more effort you put into providing details, the better your answers will be. First steps might be to search this site and then google Dyna Tach Issues, or something similar. Oh yea, get a repair manual, they are a great help. Good luck, I hope you figure out your problem.
