Default Tach Wiring Help

I got a 2008 Street Bob & got a Low Rider console w/ speedo & tach. I was not paying attention to the year, but based on the PN on the tach, the low rider must have been 2014 or newer. Also, when I plug in the low rider sppedo, nothing happens. This is not a problem as when I plug in my speedo, all is well & I can swap the speedo's.

The PN on the 20114 tach is 67000010. It has a 12 pin connector. Can someone send me the pin out/wiring for this tach? Will it even be possible to wire up this tach w/ my harness? Worst case, I can get an older tach. The PN for a 2008 Low Rider is 67481-04B. I don't think that I can get this, but a 2009 Low Rider uses a 67481-09 which I am guessing is OK. Also, on the older Low Rder Tach, is the turn signal, oil pressure, neutral, etc. integrated w/ the tach or is this something that was done more recently?

A wiring diagram & some advice would be very much appreciated!!!

The 14 tach will not work on your bike. Back in the early days it used to be all you needed for the tach was the pink wire. power and ground. Now days they use a serial bus to transmit the tachometer info. Your 08 uses J1850 single wire serial and the 14 tach uses a 2 wire CAN bus like in newer cars. The 2 busses are not compatible. The 09 tack uses the same J1850 bus but I've not tried it so can't guarantee that it will work. I do think it should.

Yep, I started to figure that out. Can I use a tach from an 07? Found a used one in good shape for a decent price. The PN for an 07 is 67481-04A. My 08 would take a 67481-04B.

I have dealt with the tachometer protocol changes myself and posted about in in the past. The later model bikes are very different with the CANbus system and different wiring.

From my experience and the info you are supplying, I'd say that 08 tach would work in place of the 07.

Just for reference, if you have a later '12+ bike and need to wire a non-CANbus tach, aftermarket or earlier H-D, I had success with going the old route and tapping in to the coil 12VDC trigger wire to provide a pulse to operate the tach.

I am running a great Speedhut tach on my 2012 Super Glide.

While I suspect that it will work, it's hard to say for certain without trying. Typically when going from a part numbered xxxxxx-04A to xxxxxx-04B, it simply means that the part has been updated in some way. Typically the 04A number gets superseded to the 04B. The number change could be based one a minor change or even where HD got the part from. Since the number you are looking at is a previous number, the big question would be, did the bus protocol change between the 2 part numbers. About the only way to find out is to try it unless you can find someone that has made the same change and it worked.
