Default 84 FXSB Tachometer Help

On my 1984 FXSB Low Rider Shovel the Tachometer needle is jumping and not giving a smooth true reading. Sometimes even pegging out. At idle and at any speed. Any ideas as to what the problem may be?? Thank You, Deano.....

First check for loose connection at tach [pink wire]..Otherwise [if it was loose at the coil it would also miss] Afraid you may simply need a new tach.
Easy enough to just wire one in and hold it in yer hand to Check a different Tach.

Thanks for the advice. So the wire going to the coil from the tach is the triger that gives the RPM reading correct?? Or is there and internal triger in the motor?? I will check all the connections like you said. It is the stock tach I know because I bought this bike new in 84. So it just may be due for a new one!
Thank You,
Deano.......

The wire coming from the coil to the tach [the Pink one] is triggers, being counted by the tach.
