I prefer textile type jackets over leather. I am short and stocky, so a leather jacket that fits well through the chest will be a little long in the arms and bunches up and limits mobility a bit. Not a huge deal, but I eventually get tired of feeling like I just left the gym lifting when I am wearing it.
Think I am going to pick the River Road Laughlin jacket up before the fall. Like the look of it in brown.
I've done the textile thing and there's a lot of good ones out there, my favorite is Aerostitch's Darien but, last year I got an FXRG midweight leather jacket. It is without a doubt the best riding jacket that I've had. It's waterproof, has an excellent liner and is cool with the vents open up to almost 90. It's expensive but, good gear is.
Agree the FXRG is a real good jacket. Did a 1600 mile trip earlier in the week with temperatures from upper 50's to 90. Rather warm when slow or stopped for gas but not too hot even behind the batwing fairing.. Did wear the Tourmaster jacket 1 day though.
Textile works OK...I was wearing this one when I hit a deer; I got up and walked without a scratch; the deer didn't...luck of the draw I know, but I'm glad I was dressed right.....and it's been comfortable from cold rain to hot desert...now wear a fabric FXRG...the leather stays on the hanger; just too heavy...
I have this jacket. It has a waterproof liners, the outer shell zips off so it is a mesh jacket for the warmer weather. I have used it in 30 degree weather with the shell on and I was comfortable.
I have last years version of this jacket and it's awesome. It's got a wind and water layer and a warmth vest so you can really wear this in lots of different weather. This one looks like its even better although I can't think of anything I'd change on mine. These look really cool too - I get lots of compliments on mine and I'm a generally fat, ugly **** so I'm not used to those. If you want to save a hundred bucks I'd sell you my 2xl and turn right around and buy the new version lol. Oh and without the added layers in I can wear it on even super hot days. Good luck either way.
