I've been going to Americade for 15 years...Every bike i had,had 16 inch apes and then some plus the risers and loud pipes ( never straight pipes screaming loud )...Ive never been stopped, hassled or pulled over once.....It started as a touring ralley and has grown leaps and bounds to be just another bike ralley so all bikes are welcome but if you rip the throttle on Canada St like you are on a racetrack you will be pulled over...As far as the checkpoints go i have no input cause i have never been stopped....For a one horse town its a great ralley with some spectacular roads through the Adirondacks and the farms and bridges thru Vermont....The store owners make enough money that one week to cover their nut for the year and thats a fact so if u think the cops want to terminate the ralley you are wrong..Just like everything in this world lately money is the driving factor sadly...That crap aside its a great time for what it is
You are right the town makes an obscene amount of money in that one week. The local paper here did a write up on it one year saying it brings something like 15 to 20 million dollars into the area in just weeks time. The cops aren't trying to stop it, they are just getting what they can out of people. Its only become a real issue in the past 2 or 3 years.
A few years back I was stopped at one of the "checkpoints"...My bike at the time was a custom heritage, and the motor was an S&S. At the checkpoint the "nice policeman" decided that my motor didn't belong with that frame and impounded the bike.
It cost me close to $5000 to get my bike out of jail. I had to get the previous owner get a copy of the original MSO for the motor, and get a notarized statement saying the original motor was destroyed and replaced.
4 trips back to upstate NY, 2 court dates all the time racking up storage fees for 4 months
I'll never be back...NY state police can kiss my dick
I've been thinking of riding up for a day trip. Maybe stay 1 or 2 nights. The question is " Are there any places where I can toss up a tent besides places that require a couple days reservations? Do any home owners in the area let bikers camp in their backyards over night? Thanx.
I've been successful in a few places the last few years. I put an add on Craig's List in the Glen Falls area, for a place to stay. If you coming on the weekend, naturally, that will make it a little harder.
I place good clear pics of me with my bike. If your alone, you shouldn't have a problem finding a place that's reasonable. The motels & hotels have become thieves, at all the rallies, with their rates.

It originally was called "Aspencade". It's become a full fledged bike rally over the years. Most don't even pay the "registration fee" to attend the events the originator produces.
Go, the riding in the Adirondacks is great.

I've been aware of the police harassing bikers in NY for quite a while. I am losing interest in the ride. I'll just take my chances when I go to Rendezvous.

+1
Americade blows....They want you to preregister for this and that...too many piggies stopping bikes only. I live sorta by there and the state of NY has pussified it so much not many locals even bother to go. No fun and too many hassles.
