My wife was headed home Friday, northbound on the Dallas North Tollway and there was a body in the southbound lanes. Dallas Morning News said a guy lost control of his Harley at Trinity Mills. Fatality. No helmet.
Headed to the HOG Rally in Ft. Worth next week. I am sure she will be thinking about what she saw the whole trip.
Sad, but... this is what happens when you do stupid ****.
I know I'll probably hear **** for being insensitive or whatever, but come on. It's hard for me to feel sorry for "victims" who, because of their riding style, were always just statistics waiting to happen anyway. The people I do feel sorry for are the loved ones left behind.
It's always "your time" when you die! Who else's time would it be? I'm with Dickey... Nobody's getting out of here alive, but we can extend our time if we choose to.
Sometimes a little common sense goes a long way,s..
Driving home from Arizona yesterday I went by two Motorcycle accidents in the mountains. One was a GSXR smashed into the side of the mountain (he is lucky the turn he failed to make was not over one of the many cliffs), the other was a BMW that was in pieces. The bags were ripped off, the bike was a total loss. Lots of people out there riding beyond their skill level.
10 months later and I still wonder why I was spared.. and even more why a Lady would think a Biker, only looks "one time" at a Stop Sign.. (btw, no helmet saved my life, as the extra weight/impact force would have snapped my neck, from what the ER Doc tells me)
I end up shaking my head whenever I hear about'em
Though for the ones about excessive speed, stunting, or alcohol/drugs it's just like... what were they thinking?
Thirty years of running motorcycle wrecks (i don't call them accidents because there's always a way it could be prevented) and most of what I saw was caused by drinking, distraction and drag racing. The best we can do is take responsibility for our own actions and hope the rest do too. Kurt

You can't 'increase' your time by being careful in the sense you can increase your nest-egg by putting a little more away each payday. The best you can do with regard to your life-expectancy is increase the odds your time will be longer. But there's no guarantee how long you'll live, nor anything you can do that's certain to extend your life.
Case in point: Any one of us could be tooling down the road, doing everything right...when someone pulls out from a side street--or makes a left in front of us--and ends that day along with all the rest.
I'm with the ones who say 'life is short, enjoy every minute...' There's no reason to go out of your way to shorten the affair, and many reasons not to do so. But no one can buy even one additional millisecond, regardless of what he believes, says, or does. It's all about the odds. And when you live long enough, even those go out the window, and you end up with a certainty...
(I truly wish I was young enough to believe I could live in a way that would bring me a long and happy life. I think I was happier when I believed such things...)
