First; thanks for the help with the Chip concert question; all ready to attend now...I see there's a few acts worth catching at the Broken Spoke campground; just how far is it from Sturgis and how do you get there if you want to drink? I'm hoping there is a shuttle; last time we stayed in Rapid City and it wasn't easy to get back and forth at the "end" of the day. Also appears the Broken Spoke venu is more "adult" oriented...fine with me...
After staying there last year, they asked for my opinion: "DISORGANIZED. Led to campsite in the dark by a golf cart with nothing but a small flashlight. Complete lack of onsite vendors. There seemed to be less than half of the available bars open. Choice of food (only one vendor) was terrible. The "Savor Society"??? Yogurt bars and fruit smoothies?? The "party truck" never moved and was reserved as a "VIP" bar for the concerts. $5 extra to be upfront for concerts? Closing off the ride through the bar and closing the bar area at night to bike parking was ill advised. Security staff was clueless. Allowed a guy to perform oral sex on his girlfriend in the men's restroom at the main bar, but bare breasts were discouraged? Standing water on the floors of the showers. Leaking backflow preventers on RV hookups. No pump out flags provided at check-in. MC "Jack ****" and "**** night"????- completely out of touch with the audience. Bus to town hours where a joke. No burnout pit. A huge disappointment from last year. WiFi??? Large, dangerous hole full of mud and water in the main road next to RV dump station left wet and unrepaired all week." I'd be happy to elaborate if you have any more questions.
We stayed at the Spoke in 2010 and really enjoyed it. Showers were fine and well taken care of. The big truck pulling the trailer died in the road and they just left it there. That was probably the biggest complaint we had, well except for expensive beer at the bar.
We had a good time in 2010. 2011 was apparently new management. All "dangerous" (read fun/adult) activity was banned. They were still setting up 3 days into the rally. Parking at the bar was cut off at 5PM leaving only soft dirt parking. Saw at least 10 bikes fall over. Shutlle hours where cut, last bus at 11PM. They never fixed the truck. 2 less hot tubs, topless was banned. Understaffed -employees responded to complaints with "It's corporate" and they where complaining about long 16 hr days. Only a few vendors and one was actually selling puppies. Water to campsites was on and off. Airbrush stand was gone. Burger guy was gone. You do understand that the "large dangerous hole" in the main road I refered to was at the RV pumpout station? By the end of the week, it covered the whole road. "Distance" to town was also increased by the reduced speed limit and high police presence on the highway.
Yeooowww...thanks for the feedback...glad I'm just going to a concert there...hopefully they get their sh*t together this year...was looking forward to a more "active" experience there...guess we'll see...
