Default Vibration Difference

Hey All, bought a 08 Ultra . Was looking at a 10 FLHTP, but really liked the 105th Colors that we had on the 08 Heritage, plus it only had 2250 miles. But, I did not realize what a huge difference in Vibration there is from 08 to 09 & newer. Other than Vibration, love the bike.

Question: What did H-D do to eliminate alot of the Vibration from a 08 to 09 & newer Models?

Is there any Mods I can do to help eliminate some of the Vibration?

Thanks for your imput, Later-James

From reading your comments on other post I realize you ride a few thousand miles a year on your Fatboy around Tampon and call yourself a Tough Biker. Are you Serious? I've put on over 3k the last few weeks.

Many wanted less vibration in the Touring Line, that is why HD did some changes in 09 & newer. I just wanted to know how to make my 08 Ultra have less Vibration. Later-James

Hey Wide Open, maybe just comming off a Heritage. But it seem like when I rode the 10 FLHTP, it was considerable less vibration. Then again, I have a dislocated right hand, and just seem to notice it probably more than most people. Thanks-James

my buddy had an 08 Ultra and I'm surprised it didn't shake itself apart. It was so bad that when we sat next to each other at a light, people would ask why his bike was shaking so much and mine wasn't. Guess a Harley wasn't for him because he now rides a Goldwing .

I've demoed the later model touring bikes and I didn't notice them to be much if any less shaky than my buddy's 08. After riding a softail for so long I don't know if I could ever get used to that.

Some people new to HD think these bikes are vibration free. Should have rode the late 90's Sportsters. I swear that's where the idea for paint shakers came from. For the uninformed the "B" engines in the softtails have counterbalancers, the "A" engines in most of the other models are rubber mounted and they shake. Sometimes there is a harmonic vibration in the handlebars, from the belt drive or primary drive. One needs to accept some of this as part of the equipment or get your liquid cooled (sound deadening) opposed four or six cylinder motors. Myself, the vibes announce I drive a Harley Davidson!

Hey Red, I think I've read that one of the symptoms of a bad motor mount is excessive vibration. Others can chime in on the validity of that statement. If it's really excessive maybe that's something to check.
I recently drove a '12 Road King and didn't notice any difference in that regard, but it wasn't something I was really looking for.

with only 2250 miles on it don't think engine mounts. would this be related to the pre 09 frame issue where aftermarket stabilizers are the cure?

Hey 1Canuck, Thanks, I will check out aftermarket Stabilizers. Didn't know if it needed to have additional rubber mounts also? I did notice a difference between my 08 and the 10 Police I rode, but then again comming off a Heritage with hardly no vibration, you notice the big difference. I do realize it is part of what makes the Touring HD what it is. Just would like to eliminate some of the shaking if possible. Thanks All, Later-
