Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and new to the world of Harley Davidson as well. I recently returned home from Afghanistan and am ready to buy my fist street bike. I've had some time on friends bikes and countless hours on dirt bikes. I've settled in on a 2012 super glide custom. The dealer is quoting me 12,399 after tax, tags, freight and set up, my out the door price would be 13605 with a thousand dollar store credit for harley merchendise or upgrades. I just want to be sure I'm getting a good deal. Any input is greatly appreciated.
TR,
I bought a 2011 Superglide Custom, 2 tone paint last spring, I'll give you the details on my purchase. The MSRP on mine was 13,694. I paid 14,145 out the door, that included about $900 in tax and license fees here in Penna, so my price for the bike was about 13,200. They threw in some goodies worth $450. So my price for the bike was about 12,750. Wound up about $900 off sticker. I thought that was decent as it was the first Harley I ever bought less than MSRP.
I assume the price you quoted, 12,399 is for a black bike? Your total sounds like it includes freight & prep. Though the additional $1000 worth of extras sweetens it up. Deduct the freight & prep out of the extras and it about adds up to $1000 off the bike. Of course the dealers markup on parts is high but it is still about what you'd pay for them. It doesn't sound bad at all but as someone else has suggested, check another dealer and compare.
Just some of my feelings abut the bike....in my opinion it has one of the most comfortable stock seats I've ever sat on. The seat height is a bit low and highway pegs were a great addition to be able to stretch the legs out. FYI.
Good luck.
You'll love it. A word of advice if I may, so you may avoid the "newbie" mistakes I did: don't buy the accessories straight away from the dealer, wait for the "open days" when the dealers discount the original HD accessories. Usually there are a couple of those days in a year, dates may change from dealer/state. You would normally get 15% to 20% off on those days. In the meanwhile enjoy your bike and figure out what accessory you really want. Also check online for discounted HD accessories.
I personally used the "customer credit" I was given to pay for the oil change/bike servicing that couldn't avoid going to the dealer for warranty reasons...

Sounds like a good deal, get them to throw in a few t-shirts and a coffee mug.
Hey guys, thanks for the responses. Yes the bike is the black one. I called/visited some other dealers today and everyone else has come in at least 800 dollars more. Only one other dealer offered me the same in store 1000 credit. I honestly liked the way i was treated at the first local dealership after all. I'm not financing. I know the 13's should be hitting in a few months. I'm going to take your advice and ask for a few more throw-in's and maybe another couple hundred off and try to walk out with the bike this week. Also, I'm a tall guy. I think I'll need forward controls or rests right away. Anyone have any feeling on this?

If you're tall you'll probably feel a bit cramped on the bike. It seems like Harley has been lowering the seats more in recent years. When my feet are on the stock pegs, I feel like my knees are in my chin. I put highway pegs on the bike before there was 5 miles on it.
You'll like the bike, it has a lot of power and the ride is pretty comfortable.
