We have a 4th of July ride planned to Memphis. Just wondering if anyone knows of a few fun things to do while we are there. Planning to do a few rides while there but just don't want to get there and not know which way to go. Seems its going to be very hot so would like to do rides that have a destination where you can at least cool off a bit in some air conditioning. Thanks for any advice.
Maybe I'm way off on this, but I would just keep going. I've driven through Memphis and that was enough for me. One of my friends from New Orleans was evacuated to Memphis during Katrina and said it was scarier than any place he had been in New Orleans, and that's no small statement.
You gotta hit Beale street. At night, it's a little boring in the day. Not a lot to do in the area. Great food though. The best time to go is in may the weekend of the BBQ contest. Used to be stationed there for a couple years and worked at a bar on Beale street on the weekends (Silky O' Sullivan's). At that age, I had alot of fun, but we just went to all the bars. Not alot of attractions so to speak. Mud island (never been there), Graceland (won't go there). The peabody hotel in downtown has the ducks to see (still, you're watching ducks in a fountain) and they have a great restraunt downtown as well, Rendezvous. They have fantastic dry rub ribs. If you like ribs, it's a must. Other than that, there isn't too much there. I'll be heading down there next may for my oldest daughters graduation.
Great BBQ, Botanical Gardens, City Zoo, Civil Rights Museum, plenty of civil war battlefields in and around the area...need to give us more info on where your intrests lie.
Be sure to stop by Bumpus Harley Davidson of Collierville. My husband, daughter and myself are members of the HOG Chapter there. Great people and will be able to tell you of anything interesting going on while you are in town. Let me know when you will be in town and if there is a dinner ride you would be interested in going on with us, you are welcome to come as my guests.

Thanks for the gesture but there will be a total of 12 of us coming. We will definitely stop at Bumpus Harley while we are there. Arriving Thursday the 5th and leaving Sunday the 8th.

I was ther last year and I agree 100 % Hotels are gated. now if you go about 12 miles by the Harley Dealer there is a Nice Key West hotel . Gives bikers a discount and could not belive the differance that 12 miles can make . Sun Records is a great tour if you are in to music history Worth the 12 bucks
