All great suggestions. I'd just like to add that I like to carry a headlamp and tail lamp on a longer trip. Every bulb I've ever had to replace has seemed to go out at 10PM in the middle of nowhere.

Speaking of headlamp, in addition to bulbs, I have one of those headlamp things you wear on your head. Sort of a wearable flashlight. I do have almost everything that's been mentioned in this thread. If a good pocket knife hasn't been mentioned, I'll add that too. It's amazing how much you can fit into a tool roll.

My advice, keep it simple! Pack only the basics and if you're going with others, have everyone bring something different. I personally wouldn't bother bringing spare parts, odds are you won't need them and they'll just take up valuable space. Besides, if you are THAT worried about something crapping out during the trip then maybe you should replace it before you leave. JMO

For those of you that advise carrying an air compressor and a patch kit, I'd LOVE to see how you would get the rear wheel of Heritage Softail or a dresser off the bike on the side of the road without a lift.

OP--Go over your bike and check sizes of all exposed fasteners. Provide the appropriate socket, combination wrench, hex key and Torx key to fit, plus a medium extension and 3/8-drive breaker bar, 6-way screwdriver, needle-nosed pliers w/ side cutter and monkey wrench for the really big stuff. Add some emergency supplies like spare fuses and bulbs, duct tape (wrapped around breaker bar), tie wraps, Loctite, Oklahoma credit card, ...

Been there done that on I-70 westbound in Kansas on an old FLH full fender shovelhead . Helmet makes a good bike support in a pinch .

Get a scoot with tubless tires. They even have tubeless with spoked wheels now.

Tubless is just plug, air, and go.
