I guy I work with reminded all of us that ride at work we should always practice our avoidance maneuvers. Even though he is relatively inexperienced and pulled off his maneuver like an idiot, it reminded us all that practice is good. He went down, busted a few bones and received quite the road rash.
He went to maneuver around an item that fell off a bike in front of him, he grabbed at the front brake and the bike went out from under him. Why he used the brake in steering around something, I have no idea. I do know he said he only used the front brake because he says his rear brakes squeal when they get hot, so he doesn't use them anymore. I'm hoping he doesn't get back on a bike, 'cause he is one of those guys that don't belong on two wheels.
My practice paid off last night, in the middle of a sharp bend a big mulie buck ran into the road.. instinct kicked in and i managed to straighten up and do some emergency braking before running out of road and leaning my EG way over to get through the turn..
My fiance was behind me and said that was the closest she has ever seen anyone come to a deer without connecting.. im pretty sure my front wheel was between his front and rear legs..

Something must be wrong with his rear brakes if they get hot. I quit using my transmission because it makes a clunk noise when shifting...now I seem to be having trouble keeping up with my buddies. I did notice since I quit using the transmission my brakes stay cooler and they don't squeal either.
Kidding aside why didn't he just address the brake squeal issue? Gotta be cheaper and less painful than crashing your brains out.
At work we are all wondering the same thing, why didn't he check his rear brakes and see what the squeal was about. But, he went with just not using them.
I have used the front brake in a slow speed turn twice. Went down both times. Most people learn after one time, but I needed the validation. You might tell him that front brakes are not always the answer.
He'll learn that if your front wheel is turned slightly, using your front brake will cause you to high side. Everyone makes mistakes.......the key is to learn from them.
