Default deShrinering a Ultra

Yes , I am a Shriner. I purchased this 1997 Ultra Classic Shriner addition 2 yrs ago. It had 40K miles on it and the owner said the engine made a bad sound and quit. I purchased it for $3500.00. Went to South Florida and picked it up. Once home, immediately pulled the engine out, & started disassembling it. Remember this is a Evo motor. What I found was the cam bearing flew apart causing metel to go all through out the engine and causing the cam to fall and the pushrods to drop. I pulled the heads, removed the jugs and split the case and removed the crank. Went back with a balanced S&S crank new connecting rods & wrist pins. 9.5-1 compression pistons, Andrews 27 cam, ajustable HD pushrods, Power commander ignition system, slight port & polish on the heads, 2 into 1 Thunder header( given to me by my cousin), and a Jaggs oil cooler, removed ambiant temp gauge and added oil temp gauge. Dyno's at 76HP now. Not looking for a radical engine just a nice upgraded dependable one. So that brings me to the present. I have decided to remoce the chrome break disk covers, which made a huge improvement on the looks of the bike. Now, I'm thinking about repainting. thinking about white with slight flames, or white with radical striping. I know this is a 15 yr old bike. I have a total investment of $7500.00 in it now. I have NO intention of dropping $25,000.00 on a new bike, AIN'T HAPPENING! But I have really breathed new life in a old scoot. What do ya'll think. Invest the $3000.00 on paint?

3k in paint? Wow, granted you have more parts than mine but I paid 800 for a RKC with fairing.

But yeah, if you plan on keeping the bike for a while giving it a nice paint job will keep the smile on your face.

Nothing wrong with the way the Shriner scheme looks, but it sounds like with as much as you know about that bike, making it look exactly like you want it would make sense.

Well, if you do the paint you'll have $10.5k into a bike that is probably worth around $8k. But you have went through the motor and it is fresh so it will run for a long time without any worries or more money. The EVO's run great and are super reliable and it sounds like you have some decent power out of it right now.

Right now, you have less money into it than it is worth and has a rebuilt motor. Plus, it still has the shriner theme which might make it more desirable than a bike with a custom paint job.

If you really like the bike and plan on riding it and keeping it for awhile, then get it painted the way you want and enjoy it.

If you are not sure, then sell it and take the money that you made and buy something else that you will like.

Whatever decision you make, good luck and ride on!

If fixing this one up makes you happy and way under budget go for it on the paint... Are you going custom paint and graphics? If so 3K is a bargain if solid color still a bargain... Lots of time and materials to do it right...

My uncle who passed away was a Shriner also he left a 97... It has less than 100 miles on it... He bought it and dumped it the first time out, Well he was drunk and weighed over 350lbs and his *** had not set a bike in over 30 years... Got to love drunk Shiner's....

Money was not an issue for m he had all the lights and bling of the day installed... As a matter of pride He had it fixed and parked it in the garage... Id love to get my hands on it.. His two sons wont ride it there limp dick wimps... Sadly it will sit there and forever and rot worse than it already has...

keep the orig tins, find some on E bay, paint those. Dont need a 3k paint job, regular automotive paint job will work fine. You certainly have a good idea of doing things, if you sand them down and prime, will save a ton of $$
