Lynn he absolutely got pulled over for the weaving and he is not mad a t all about the whole thing. I was just unaware of this particular law as I have never known anyone to have any problems with it.
I still want to know that if you buy a used bike from a dealer and it has aftermarket exhaust on it that does not meet the standard, are you as the buyer expected to bring it up to code? Also if since there is such a law, how come the dealers are not responsible for making the corrective changes?
I have never had any problems in Florida regarding equipment on my bikes. It is usually a very motorcycle friendly state, unlike the communist states of New York & Kalifornia.
Not quite sue why your baggin California for unfriendly motorcycle state. I have had absolutely no problems and my exhaust is not quite by any means. nly tickets i have gotten have been of my own doing and that was speeding. Now maybe you are referring to the powers to be trying to make us smog our bikes. Well my friend that still has yet to happen. Anyway on with the program.

You are responsible for your ride.
If you purchase a ride or cage in which a headlight is burned out, do you think you're responsible for getting it working, or it's OK to ride as is because that's how it was when you bought it?
The dealer isn't taking the bike on the road: you are. If you want him to make it legal, then you have to make that a condition of sale. As far as he's concerned, you may be taking the bike to the track, or off-road...whatever. He may know better, but it's not his responsibility.

Fishy to me. Side note: There's guys running Harleys with straight pipes that you can hear crank up and ride off 10 blocks away. Mine was similar with the straight-thru baffles, but it was just too much so I went with the 'quite' baffles that now sound very loud, but low and mean.
Point is, though, guys like that will cause us all more trouble in the long run. Yeah, live free and die young, but don't fľck it up for the rest of us.

Truthfully the guy that got pulled over probably had the quietest ride out of the 4 of us. Heck one of the guys hardly has any pipes at all. (See the pic below). Guess it was a good thing just the one guy got pulled over and not all of us.
The cops don't seem to enforce it, unless you deserve it, ie- wide open in a congested area, but use it for instances like this. He was weaving, felt he had to give him something and that was better than points on his license.
