I'd rather annoy a few folks and be seen than not annoy anyone and be dead. Anything to help you be seen is a good idea, and if it is a decent unit it should look more like a pulsing light than someone flipping back and forth on the brights. Besides which if you are a good driver cage or otherwise, you should see that bike coming up from far behind you long before it would be in a position to be flipping brights for you to get out of the way, thus no reason to be pissed about it.
I didn't want one on flashing constantly, but I am continuously having to make maneuvers to avoid tourists inloud shirts, knee socks and sandals that flock here from all parts of the country and world, that can't drive and only want to get to the beach as fast as they can.
I designed my own modulator, that works 'on demand'.
When I see some moron coming up fast from a side street, I push a momentary button on my switch housing, which will modulate my headlight for 4 seconds and then returns the headlight to normal after 4 seconds.
I know it has saved myass more times than I can count.
A couple cars with no intention of stopping for me have locked up their brakes after I push the switch.
I run one on the Ultra, and wouldn't ride without it. As has been stated, it's another form of personal protection that I've chosen to use. For someone who rides alone most of the time,it's always about visibility.Don't care if it annoys anyone or not. Simple fact is.........if you're pissed off about it,you've "SEEN" me!! Flame on if so inclined.
Chops,
That is basically how you can operate the headlight modulator. It is hooked to the bright light only, so you can ride around with out the bright light on.When you see some cage that you think might pull out in front of you, flip on the bright.
I don't have any use for my horn. My pipes are louder. I pull in the clutch and blip the throttle when I want to get someones attention, but I doubt if Iwill be heard in a cage, coming from the other direction, that might turn in front of me.
I think my optioned bike has more need for a headlight modulator than one with running lights or a windshield. During the daylight hours, I think bikes with windshields are a lot easier to spot, because of the sun reflecting off of them.
Tom
I had one installed on my 07 Heritage prior to delivery, The battery was dead when I arrived at the dealership because everyone was checking it out. My salesman bought 3 for his bikes and the dealership has sold over a dozen more. I know it gets others attention. After being T-boned and spending over a year in casts, I'll take an edge,
but then again, drivers hit School Buses----
They really **** me off and I know others feel the same way. When you are in a car you feel like the bike is flashing you to move over or go faster. I like to be seen too, so I had passing lamps installed and I leave them on most of the time.
I also run my passing lamps(highway lights) always in the daylight, not always at night.I do see bikes better in the day when they are on it is almost like a car at night with the brights on.
i got one after a good friend got killed on her bike on the same route that i take to work everyday (about a month after i got my first street bike), i don't care about looking cool i just like to ride, there is no doubt in my mind it makes me more visible, does that mean that some one won't take a left in front of me no but if they dothey won't be able to say they did not see me, i have the kisan that i got from signal dynamics a forum sponser it takes a half an hour to install, it has a senser that turns it off at night and it runs on your high beam so you can turn if off anytime you want, it fits between your bulb and your stock bulb harness, i think it is one of the best $100 safety tools out there
i flip mine on when i see a possible danger ahead. otherwise i don't use it. doesn't seem to make much difference, idiots here still pull out in front of me. the modulator got me a ticket in Tennessee last year. the modulator caught the troopers eye and he looked at the radar. he said if i hadn't been using the modulator he likely would have not paid any attention to me. 70 in a 55 but he wrote it for 64 in a 55 cause he liked my cop bike. LOL.
