I remember a guy at the advanced riding class who hadn't ridden in 35 years, bought a new Electra Glide, and was trying to learn to ride again. All I remember is him going the wrong way on the course with the handlebars shaking at low speed. Personally, I would start with a light bike that's easy to ride and move up in a year or two.
Okay. Go ahead and flame me. But I bet that each of these examples were of men and not women. I do not get it. What is wrong with having the bike delivered to the house and have a friend ride it to the parking lot for some practice before endangering yourself and the general public. It boggles my mind.
that is what i did.had my first road bike delivered to my house because i had not been on a bike for a long time. and that was all on dirt bikes a hole other animal.i rode around on back roads by house until i got used to it.anybody that gets on a motorcycle that has not rode for awhile or not at all is nuts!i just traded a 2011 Kawasaki Voyager on a 2012 eg ultra classic the Kawasaki was bigger and heavier and it still took me 2000 miles to get used to my ultra i just took it easy until i got used to it.all bike are there own animal. i hope the guy is alright and learns a lesson to practice first
I have been riding for 46 years and will not ride anyone elses bike unless it is the only way for them to get it home. Every bike is diffrent and will not handle the same It takes a while to get use to any of them. I know some kind of **** can always happens every time I go out.
Saw a guy at the local dealer a few years back picking up a screaming eagle bagger and shortly after I heard the guys at the dealership scrambling to get a trailer to go pick up a bike. I left and saw the guy didn't even make it a mile down the road. Crashed it severely at the onramp to the highway just down the road.
Hope he is ok as well.
Back in 1984 I bought a brand new 1982 Suzuki 750 at a local dealership. Up until then my experience consisted of a ride around the block on a Honda 400 that belonged to a guy at work. Back then a 4 cylinder 750 was a big bike and I had only sat on it in the showroom on the center stand, they wouldn't allow any test rides. I didn't realize only my tip toes would be touching the ground. Don't know how I managed to get it home ok but I did. Man I was petrified. Rode it in the neighborhood for a while before going back in traffic.
When I worked at the Indian dealership we sold several brands of the popular kit choppers with big engines . In comes this guy and want's the biggest baddest we had knew right away he was clueless and tried to talk a bit with him . Did the prep spent 40 minutes going over things with him , he gets to the edge of the lot and shoots straight across 4 lanes with the front wheel about a foot off the ground into the big chain link fence across the street .
In my 9 months there at least 10 people wrecked or dropped the bike within a 1/4 mile of leaving the place .
