They say that has been done now and they have the title but the original owner still has not signed the title. They had trouble getting hold of him to sign it.

So 2 months after getting this bike, I have no title and no tags.

Is this normal? I have never bought something on consignment before.
Dang. Did you buy from Knoxville Harley-Davidson in Tennessee?

Everyone is concerned about this title issue, and I am too. I feel sorry the OP got into this mess and certainly hope it gets resolved in his favor very soon. BUT...a larger and potentially more dangerous issue might be one of insurance. He doesn't own the bike, the lien holder does. A bill of sale doesn't mean a thing if the seller didn't own the bike in the first place. From my limited knowledge of insurance, if he doesn't own the bike he can't insure it. We all hope this doesn't happen, but if he gets into an accident it would appear that he's uninsured. Even if an agent writes a policy, if a claim is filed it will turn up the he doesn't own the bike and the policy will probably be voided. Screwed big time.

OP...PLEASE take all the advise you've been getting and clear this up now. Don't wait. No one wants to see you screwed by not only the dealer but worse by not having any in-force insurance.

Oh..and the dealer mailed the title to the original seller? That's not only stupid but probably borders on criminal and is certainly negligent.

Time to stop being the nice guy and stand on their head and get it done.

Unless that was explained to you and agreed on, no it is not normal and is BS.
You should have made all that clear when you bought.
When I pay for a bike in cash, the very next thing to hit my hands is a title and b.o.s.
Without it there's no deal.

Not at one HD dealer in Denver colorado---------------they still by law are allowed 60 days to get you the mso/title.They use every minute of it and also use your sales tax money that same length of time.I think this is becoming a cheap way of floating money as they don't take it off their floor plan as well they use the sales tax money

Saturday worked out pretty well.

On Saturday the dealer had the title signed by the original owner. I signed it aswell, so its just a matter of getting it sent in an tagged now I think.

Not happy how it all went down but I am getting real close to being ot of the woods.

A few people have mentioned this however it is incorrect. You do not need to own a vehicle in order to insure it. Call any insurance company and ask what you will need to put insurance on your neighbors car for a few months while he lets you borrow it. They will tell you that you need the Vin Number and for full coverage you might need to let them make a visual inspection. They are not going to tell you that you can't insure it though (unless your uninsurable for some other reason).

When you finally get a title, make sure it is real, not photoshop.

Only bad advice that I read was for calling cops, most of whom don't care, don't have time, are overworked, not thier problem, etc...
Lawyers, they want money, wouldn't you?
Write a letter to a state agency? That's a slow boat to China at best.

My guess is the dealer meant no harm from the get-go, and will never do this again.
Good luck on your Sporty. You never did tell us what you paid for it?
