I tend to ride near other bikes on the road as bikes together make a larger, more visible mass than a single bike.
If someone doesn't like my tagging along they can **** off. Once in a while that happens, and the bike takes off and when they make it obvious that's what they are doing, I don't try to keep up.
Normally we end up riding together until our routes diverge and offer each other a wave and smile as we part ways.
Exactly... what if he had just robbed the local bank and was doing the dont be obvious thing. Someone may think you are an accessory and then your face would be all over tv because they ran your tag. Your wife would see it and die of embarrassment, your kids would think you were a felon, the news nerds would camp out on your lawn and trample your flowers and grass. You might lose your job over negative publicity. So there you are...no job, dead wife, kids who are ashamed, ruined landsxaping and your reputation ruined all because you joined some guy you dont know on his ride
Short version....let him ride alone. You will both enjoy it more
Here's the scenario....your're riding along and slowly catch up to another rider. Do you join him or leave him alone and pass him? Or on a highway you merge into traffic and happen to end up next to a solo rider, do you join him or speed up/slow down to let him enjoy his "alone time".

I have a different take. You get a promotion because they see you as a "go getter". You get more nookie from the wife. Your kids finally think you're cool. Not to mention the new TV series made in your name.
Better job, more sex, respect from your children, TV star. I say ride with that guy!
If I come up to a light and they are in front (providing they are in the left or right third of the lane) I will pull up alongside, but that is a safety thing. Two tail lights at an intersection are better than one.
Otherwise, I might give a nod and a wave and just keep to myself.
I even asked if I could share a parking space this morning with a guy sitting outside Sbux with his Fatboy parked out front. I could have had my own space but I figured 2 bikes safer than one and I'd be kind to a car driver who also wanted the parking spot. And yes I did get a coffee!
