if i put on a set of true dual exhaust,, do i have to have the bike retuned? can i still use the screaming eagle slip on ? or do i have to change them out also,,? 2005 ultra classic,, 88 eng.
thanks
From what I understand, the re-tune is only necessary if you change out the AC also. As for the mufflers, that depends on the makers of the duals so you will have to read on what will fit.
I bought Vance and Hines true dual and they came with mufflers. As far as re-tuning, I believe if you change your intake and exhaust you must. If only one or the other .... no.
Replacement exhaust is generally less restrictive. Your bike needs a certain amount of back pressure. So if you replace exhaust only your performance suffers due to lack of back pressure. You can also blue your pipes.
Changing AC brings in more air, you need a tune to inject more gas to go with the extra air. This culminates into extra exhaust that requires the freer flowing pipes to keep proper back pressure. Otherwise it's a bit like the banana in the tailpipe.
They all go hand-in-hand, just do it all and get it done.
I'm not made of money, but I swear I'll never understand why this question keeps coming up. As much as these bikes cost you oughta be able to do a complete upgrade. If you can't then wait till you can.
