I too have a huge head. I just use a Daytona as that seemed to be the only one that didn't make me look like I belong on Mario games. If I decide to go back to dot helmets I'll just buy smaller and mash the hell out of the liner.
Do any of you guys have a giant head? What do you do about a helmet?
I haven't been able find a helmet to fit me since i was a teenager.
Novelty helmets only go to 2X, they fit like a beanie on top of my head.
I have a 2X HJC full face, i took all the padding out, and could just get it to my eyes.
I have a 4X MX helmet that i can just get on,but it is too tight all over, and gives me a bad headache.
A 4x helmet measures 8 5/8, my head measures 8 3/4 or a little bigger.
I cant even find a hat that fits very good.
Even in 9th grade high school football, they gave me a shell of a helmet with the padding removed for it to fit.
Ohio doesn't have a helmet law, i don't want to wear one any way, so i never worried about it. Lately i have been thinking that if they ever decided to require one, or if i wanted to go out of state, i would have to give up riding. That would never be an option, so i want to figure this out now while i still have time.
Good God...8 3/4??? At 7 7/8 I thought mine was big. In an HD helmet I take an XXL. Not sure there's anything out there for your size. Maybe a helmet company would make one for you? Probably pricey though. Best of luck
I have a Daytona 4XL half and a HJC CL-MAX2 5XL modular that I switch between. Even the hat the wife got me from Harley is a 4XL.
Check with your local metric dealers and see what they have in stock, if you do not have a local helmet specialty store. They usually have a much larger selection of helmets available than the HD dealers. They might even be able to order in a larger size for you to try out before buying.
I too have the extra large cranial capacity. I found that Vega helments fit best. I have a XXXL full face that fits well. I've had it way too long. I recently got a Vega XXXL 3/4 helment. On that I have had to shave out a little of the styrofoam to make it comfortable and even then its not comfortable for more than 2 hours. When are they going to make more "man sized" helments?
I sometimes ride with a dude who is a bobble head (not just big like you mentioned). He struggled finding a helmet - we live in MD with a helmet law - he settled on a Daytona after much searching. He really likes it and is a 4x. No, he doesn't tip over when riding, not often anyway :-)
