RE: What is everyones feelings about wearing a helmet?
I wear a fullface, it saved my life when I hit that deer at 55 MPH. the helmet is in my garage right out in full veiw so I never even think about going out without one on..But I also beleive it should be up to the person if they want to wear one or not. Not mandated by the Govt.
RE: What is everyones feelings about wearing a helmet?
I wear a half helmet when I have to (which is most of the time since it is the law here). But when in a state that doesn't require one, I take it off unless riding on a superslab.
RE: What is everyones feelings about wearing a helmet?
I live in NY which is a mandatory helmet state. I wear a DOT half helmet and suffer from the wind pulling my head back, like most of us do.
I rode into southern PA last month and went lid-less for the first time. It was very nice. Very, very nice! When we got back to NY the lids went back on and it really felt uncomfortable.
I agree with others that it should be a personal decision.
RE: What is everyones feelings about wearing a helmet?
I usually don't wear a helmet, if I go on the interstate for a long period of time I will wear one, but just like some others on here I find the helmet very uncomfortable constantly catching the wind and chocking me, I do think about the consequences.
RE: What is everyones feelings about wearing a helmet?
I don't even carry a helmet with me. Illinois had no kind of helmet law for any age. I love riding without a helmet and only carry a half helmet if I'm riding to a state that has a helmet law. I have fought to keep the right to decide in Illinois. There are statistics to support not wearing a helmet but I usually end up in an argument if I try to explain them.

i usually don't. when i know i am going to be doing a lot of riding, i will. my harley brand DOT half helmt sucks at highway speeds! it catches the wind and whips my head around as well as choking the heck out of me. in order to keep it from lifting off my head, i have to keep it really! really! tight. after a half day of highway riding (no windshield) i had bruises on my face where the strap crossed my jawbone, big black and blue ones. it also chokes me when i have it as tight as i need it, and nearly causes my eyes to pop out when a truck passes. does anyone else have a half helmet that acts like throat parachute? (btw, i am positive it fits correctly)
my full face is super hot and just kind of ruins the experience. maybe if i found the right helmet, i would look more favorably on them. the regular full helmet with out a face shield might be the way for me to go.
after crashing my bike, without a helmet and being lucky enough to walk away, i thought i would never ride without one... but i find both the helmets i have to be very uncomfortable and really making the time on my bike very painful, or at least unenjoyable. i am leaving denver for the last few days of sturgis tomorrow, ill likley wear my full face.... yuck!
Man, you should SERIOUSLY look into an NXT 1/2 helmet. I have one and it's light and about 1/2 as thick as an HD brand. It doesn't catch wind at highway speed, even with a strong headwind.
