Default Lean lookin plugs

I installed a Big Sucker AC on my Wideglide. 2003. I have SE ll's slip ons for exaust. The bike starts and runs great. a little sneeze from the carb when started, and then its smooth. Runs like a bat out of he**. A real noticeable difference. Occasional sneeze while riding. Warmed it up, rode about 40 miles, pulled the clutch and killed the motor. Pulled the plugs and they are white. (new plugs). Lean! I read a thread in DIY that says low jets are usually #45 or #46. I have #45. This is supposed to deal with idle to 1/4 throttle. Im wondering if I can richin the mxture by adjusting the air/fuel mix with the screw. Thats question #1. Question #2. Im kornfused now. To richin, turn screw in ( clockwise)? Im I right? I posted this in carb fuel..... etc. I was told to just put a # 48 low jet in. The DIY Thread said I could put in a larger low jet or adjust the air/fuel. Also to pull the needle out and put #4 washers under the clip to adjust the mid range. This is starting to sound complicated. Help!!! Any suggestions? [sm=confused06.gif]

If you are running a 45 slow jet you are going to be lean. Replace it with a 48, and replace the needle with one for a 1988 1200 Sprotster and you will be fine. This will adjust the fuel air mixture for mid range where you will normally be running. It has been my experience that the high jet, usually a 165 to 175, will be fine.

You are not going to do much for the mixture by messing with the idle screw. This is basically for idle and very little above. Just turn it 2 to 2 1/2 turns out from the bottom and you will be good. The further out you go the richer you get.

None of this is complicated, just time consuming. Get a service manual and the workings of your carb will become very clear.

Regards,

Bill
