LeBo.....
I'm talking about sparkplugs. That parade is nice to see but hard on your bike if you ride it.
(ask a shriner about parades).
Parades & very slow traffic are hard on your plugs. They WILL foul. Most bikers carry an extra set on roadtrips. I've seen guys sit & idle for 10-15 minutes, really bad idea for an air cooled engine.
I don't use earplugs but have seen a guy or 2use them when riding all day.
I'm half deaf anyway......but that from years of abuse. (enjoyed every minute)
I live and hour north of D.C. I will be riding down with a group of friends early Sunday Morning to be at the Pentagon when they open the lot a 8:00 am We got there last year around 11 am and the north lot was alrady full and they were putting people on the south lot. I called in a favor and got us moved to the back of the north lot. The parade starts at 12:00 wegot startedat 2:45 and there were still thousands of bikers behind us. This year is the 20th anniversary and they are predicting the largest turnout ever.
seadog07This will be my 1st time to Rolling Thunder. I was invited to join a group that has gone to almost evey one over the past 20 years, so I am counting on them to knowall the in and outs.We are splitting rooms and those were booked for me as well.I think the hotel in MD was around $100. After this one, I should be more help.
Live in Fredericksburg here and will be attending as well with 10 others. I'd offer up a room, but already have 3 takers on the spare bedrooms and putting 2 others on air matressesin the room over the garage (laundry/office).
I'll be there. A few of us ride to All American HD where we pick up the police escort and theytake us to Ft Washington Harley Davidson. Then we mingle with the vendors trying to sell something. We have about a half hour layover and then leave for the Pentagon parking lot. The cops do a good job of blocking traffic for the bikers but once you get to the Pentagon, the rest of the nation's riders are there and going from there to the Vietnam Memorial is a little slow.
Do it once, then ride the ride to the Pentagon and peel off.
I will be going this year...but will NOT be going to hang out in the Pentagon parking lot again....last year was the first time and did the whole thing...while it was an experience...spending over 4 hours sitting in one of the Pentagon lots with only 1 porta potty was not fun.... I will probably just do the Ride of the Patriots from Patriot HD in Fairfax...and then head into DC.....
I stayed in Winchester, just off 81... A Bob Evans (I believe) right across the street, and just up the road from Grove's Winchester Harley-Davidson. They always have food and quite a party the weekend of Rolling Thunder!!! I endorse Winchester and it a nice ride from there into DC along 50 if I remenber the route correctly.
I personally like to ride in early and get a parking spot just across the street from the Lincoln Memorial and sit and watch the line of bikes file past. Your right there near the Memorial and close to your bike if need be... ( I always pack munchies anda fewcold brewski's)
Not trying to be a stick in the mud about this worth while event but are we talking about the evn t that happened last year or the one happening this year (2008)?
