I think my english blood must be thinning, went out yesterday about lunch time and it was a nice 65 f or so, probably got up to 70 in the afternoon, headed back in the dark and temps plummeted to the low 50's, had to put my balaclava and gloves on, brrrrrr. Still got 130 miles in during the day though.
Your night ride was our high! It was in the twentys yesterday and today on the ride into work. Supposed to hit 61 today. That's t-shirt riding weather to me!
I'd rather be out when it's 40-60 than when it's 80+ We had a DAMN HOT summer this year in Chicago, 80's to the 100's almost all Goddamn summer, rode more the whole winter of 2011-2012 than I did the whole summer of 2012.
Rode today in the Chicago Burbs, 28 degrees when I went out, 36 when I came back, all leathered up, neck fleece/gore-tex thing in place...... invigorating! Makes you feel alive......
Ride Safe, all, and especially you Brothers who have the weather to ride year-round.....
Hello Pondskipper
I like winter rides but no matter how nice it looks when i am setting off i always put me full winter gear on. When that sun starts to hide about 2.30 -- 3 pm it drops real cold and if your not snug in your gear all the fun goes. I have to take the bike for an mot next week and will go for a ride out but i will have all me gear on.

I just don't get you guys that like to ride in the cold--I am not comfortable unless the temps are 80 or above. Love ridin' in just a T-shirt. But I'm the guy out there in July, when the neighborhood is deserted, waxing my truck or mowing the lawn, sweat dripping down & loving it. If I didn't love hot weather, I wouldn't live anywhere near this state!
But it's been freezing *** every night for the past few days--too cold for Florida.
This time of year I dress for the coldest time of the day. It's easier to peel off extra clothes than to regret that you didn't bring enough.
27 predicted tonight, a balmy 33 on Monday morning. I'll look like the Michelin man riding in to work, then pack most of it in the saddlebags for the 60 degree ride home.
(And I'm never cold just because the temperature is...just smart enough to own the right gear.)
I find its not just the cold you've got to worry about, at this time of the year the sun hangs a lot lower in the sky and I often get dazzled even with sun glasses on, but more than me being dazzled its the guy roaring up behind me in his big v8 pickup truck with the sun in his eyes that worry's me.
