I experienced this for the first time this winter past (in Australia we're going into summer). I never had it before in my old bike only on the one I got this year. I assumed it was bad circulation but didn't know if my heated grips contributed, also these grips are considerably fatter than I'm used to so didn't know if that was part of it too. I'm getting some new grips put on that are standard diameter so I'll see if it makes a difference
this time my ignorance exceeded my wit. Didn't know anything about Raynaud's desease.
I'd like to apologize for my smartass post above to everybody that has this disesase.
I'll inform myself better before posting something idiotic like I did above without any respect for the ones who are suffering.
That was my most stupid post ever.
Really sorry.
My right index finger got frostbit mountain climbing when I was younger and it will do the same thing. Kind of freaky like it's dead...still works though, as long as it's a little warm...
Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) is characterized by digital ischemic attacks, followed by cyanosis and erythema, as first described by Maurice Raynaud in 1862. It is usually bilateral, symmetric, mostly seen in young women and is considered as a primary (classic, idiopathic) form and a benign clinical problem. RP could be a manifestation of a connective tissue disease, vasculitis, cryoglobulinemia, drug induced, etc. (considered as secondary).
Vibration-induced Raynaud's phenomenon (VRP), associated with long-term exposure to hand-transmitted vibration at work, is a secondary form of RP.
I just bought a chain saw and the manual warns that you should wear gloves to prevent Raynard's or Carpel Tunnel. Just another reason I always wear padded gel gloves on bike. I have had Carpel tunnel from using a Sawzall.
Raynaud's can be part of a syndrome known as Sjogren's. It includes extremely dry, gritty eyes. Sometimes associated with arthritis or other autoimmune disease.
