Default Advice needed installing Fatcat exhaust

Installing new fatcat and having problems getting socket to upper rear cylinder stud. I tried a 1/4" drive socket with thinner wall and it was no where close to fitting between the heat shield and cylinder fins. I guess I'll try a thin wall socket, but I don't think it will fit either. I know I can remove heat shields, but that is a pain in the ***, plus D&D instructions state to tighten from muffler to exhaust flanges. If I had to remove heat shields, I would have to tighten Flanges first. Anyone else have this problem - something simple I'm missing? Help is appreciated - I wanna ride this weekend!

You are going to have to remove the heat shield to get the socket on the nut. Just put a set on my 01 superglide. Follow the instructions from D&D, install the rear cylinder heat shield after its all buttoned up. Good luck!

Was able to get the headers on with shields - just needed to loosen shields and reposition. I have to mess with bracket that bolts to frame and make I have enough clearance for the 240 Phatail swingarm. Instructions are a little lackng - anyone anyone know what the Allen head bolt and small rubber cap is for?

I've read in here for yrs that the D&D's are not easy to install.

Seems most all agree to not tighten anything till they are all together then tighten down.

Once I got the heat shield positioned correctly, the headers went pretty easy - probably a little easier than othe 2-1 pipes I had on past bikes. Problem is their instructions never reference bolts or show any pics. I used to own a Yamaha that was setup with a lot of HD style parts, so I am used to rigging things so they fit, but this has parts that I have no idea what they are for.
