Would a weak battery cause fuel pump not to run? I stored my bike end of October, put the battery tender on it and went to fire it up this past weekend. The battery is weak, and I knew that at the end of the season. I need to get a new one, and that is not the question. The question is I was not able to get the bike to fire up, it cranked strong at first and slowly died as the battery was weak. I am curious (as I just installed a new fuel pump October 2011) if the battery being weak would cause accessories such as the fuel pump not to operate properly or at all? Is that why it would not fire? I thought for sure i would get it to fire but it was a no go.
Any suggestions (big open can of worms) on a replacement battery?
If the starter motor turns you can be assured that there's enough juice for the pump.
Sounds like you have two problems to me. Battery choice? I would get an original but, I'm sure that opinions will vary on this.

If you put the battery tender on it when you stored it, it should keep the battery up. If you just now put it on, it probably won't charge the battery enough to start the bike.
I put it on at the time I stored it in October, and I knew the battery was weak then.. Tried it this past weekend... I will be getting a new battery in spring.. but just curious to the bike not starting... not enough juice to wanna do it?
Is a battery tender even strong enough to get battery to a full charge? I would try charging it on actual charger first then let tender keep it maintained. Auto stores will charge it free & check it free. I would try that before buying one.
Did you try and start the bike after putting in new fuel pump? Also I would check connections to the pump and check the fuse's. If the bike turned over with the starter then the battery should have enough power to fire the pump. You say you had it turning over with the starter but was it cranking over fast enough to fire the bike?
I notice you have a fuel injected bike.
If the battery voltage drops below about 10 volts during starting , there is a chance that the ecm drops off line ..i/e no juice to the fuel injecters..
replace your weak battery before you fry your starter ,and maybe something else..
This post must be read with a Robert DeNiro imitation:

You! You're good you!
Nice attention to detail! (Whether you are right or not is another thing.)
