Apparently I have periformis syndrome. butt muscle pinching the siatic nerve...intense pain down the leg and in my ***. I can release it with stretching and have done some massage--which helps--but too expensive. today i rode a 100 miles and i am crippled this evening--all bent over. I am glad it's winter, because I have got to beat this thing before spring riding.
Any of you guys dealing with this? Any tips for a 50-something just now starting to fall apart mal-mal? thanks, benny
Sorry to tell you it's only gonna get worse. It was the main reason I traded in my Softail 3 years ago. I get physio, massage, stretching, tens machine, ultrasound. It all helps a bit but not entirely. I love riding with my legs stretched out forward a bit, heels on the boards and toes on the pegs. This position is comfortable at first but it kills my back. Sitting up straighter is better but it's not my favorite. I'm coming up on 55 soon and this started around 50 for me. Gotta use the shield on the highway now, fighting the wind is a killer. Stretching is very helpful, do it every day. Working your abs and core will help too.
You have to really stretch your legs , especially hamstrings. Everyday. Losing the gut helps too ,keep stomach muscles strong. I do the stretching but have a big gut. My back is ok as long as i do the leg stretches. Have had sciatica problem for a long time .My right leg goes numb. (Plumber a lot of heavy work).
I do back exercises every morning. do not have to do much ...maybe a couple of leg lifts or something for a couple of weeks, just start REAL slow and stay with it. I have weighed over 230 since HS and still have a gut, but back exercises are a life style for me or i have problems.
I tried everything. All doctors consulted said to do the surgery. It helped a lot. Reinjury set it back. May need surgery again. Surgery is major deal, but really helps. Good luck.
