The worldwide market for motorcycles, including electrically-powered two wheelers, is forecast to grow 7.2 percent annually to 134.5 million units in 2016, and industry revenues are expected to rise 8.7 percent per year to $90.1 billion. The Asia/Pacific region will continue to dominate worldwide demand, representing 84 percent of all units sold in 2016. The region, which is home to the six largest national motorcycle markets, will account for more than four-fifths of all new unit sales between 2011 and 2016. However, it will only be the fourth fastest growing region in percentage terms behind North America, the Africa/Mideast region, and Eastern Europe, much smaller markets that together account for less than one tenth of global demand. China will remain by far the largest national market.
It may not all go to harley davidson but I think overall motorcycle riding is going to be growing exponentially with fuel costs the way they are. My truck get 10 mpg, my heritage 33 mpg and this summer I think I may be buying a bicycle to make my 4 mile trek to and from work seeing as how gas here in northeast ohio is now $3.79 a gallon in february for 87. I may not even pull the vette out of the garage this summer if they keep going up. Can't wait for summer WOOHOO!
I think with gas prices going the way they are, we're going to see more motorcycles. The last couple of years around here, I've noticed a lot more bikes.
The last couple of years I've noticed more scooters on the road. Haven't noticed much of a change in motorcycles other than attendance at charity events seems to have gone down.
I kind of hope its in decline again. Way too many weekend warriors that buy bikes as a status symbol and never ride them. Then, they sit on a sales floor marked $1-2K less than a new bike...which just makes the used market unaffordable to many.
I'm very lucky/fortunate to own my bike. I worked hard and deployed in the military and bought myself a present. I dont ever have plans of selling this bike, my truck is a 1997 paid off, my wife's grocery getter is paid off, and we live in an old *** house to save money. I will never be without a motorcycle again
