I am more than a bit frustrated here. I picked-up a '99 Road King back in November with the plan to fix some minor wreck damage that it had, and get it on the street.
Well, it's been more than 2 months, and I have found that the idea (pronounced 'ideer' - if you watch American Chopper)of 'customer service' issomething that is all but forgotten.
Ihave had a local HD dealer that has forgotten to order parts...
Several HD dealerships that could notprovide (seemingly) simple technical information...
A painter that has missed his (self established) deadline by 6-weeks...
A 'local' repair shop that has missed deadlines...
A (second) local HD service department that has damaged parts they were trying to install...
I'm sure there is more that I am aggrivated by - but that seems to be enough for the moment.
I have worked my ***-off to try and get as much stuff done as I can, as quickly as possible - while trying to keep-up with my job, and not **** the wife of too much. But it seems that the few things I cannot do (I don't have bearing install/removal tools or a paint booth) are holding me up because I can't count on anyone to do what they say they are going to do.
The only thing that I can say has been a positive about this build is that I found a powder coat guy who is AMAZING. (the downside is tha the is taking all my $$$ 'cuz I keep finding more stuff for him to do while I am waiting on the other guys).
Oh, I guess the other thing that I can be happy about is that the bike I am working on is going to look amazing when done. (but...if deadlines would have been met as promised - I would have been riding it yesterday)
Unfortunately there are a lot of "flakey" people out there. Most people's word means nothing anymore as the power of the almighty dollar rules. It is sad, but the way it is almost anywhere. Sorry to hear it is taking so long, but like the last poster said, it will be worth the wait. Hang in there.
Lol this is why I have considered my bike "done" except for bolt ons. You'll be burning rubber before you know it, but I know the waiting sucks the big cheese.
