Default is it ok to use a PIAA auxiliary light as headlight?

I was just wondering if you could use an auxiliary light as a headlight? Like a 55W Hella or Piaa for example? Or is it going to melt and catch everything on fire from continual use? I've seen it on some bikes before, but I don't know if they are rigged up to not run during the day or if ts just for show. I know you'd be sacrificing High/low beams, but I'm ok with that. Thanks
