Luckily I was just getting on freeway this morning when it happened and was still in entry lane not fast or commuter lanes. Just got on, hit the throttle to accelerate and felt it go limp in my hand. I was able to coast to the side safely. Called my insurance co's ( the one that starts with P) 800# for roadside asssitance and had about a 40 minute wait to be trailered to nearest H-D dealer. The service writer said warranty should cover it but had never heard of a throtle cable breaking so early mileage-wise.
Anyway waiting for call to say when I can pick-up. One advantage of living in So. California is that there are literally 15+ HD dealers in a 50 mile radius. I keep reading about 2 week waits or more for a service appointment from other forum members and I have never had to wait more than a day for any service work. Got towed in at 11am and they said she should be done by 5pm and I didn't even buy the bike there. Here's hoping I didn't just jinx myself.
Well, the dealer Laidlaws H-D, Baldwin Park, Ca. called me at 4:48 and said to come and get her. She was nicely washed and the cable was replaced at no charge under warranty. All they could attribute it to was a defective cable from the factory.
