OP's probably lost interest, or totally confused here...bottom line = bike's OK & start in "N."

I, most definitely, will not start it in gear again. The only time I can see doing it out of necessity would be if the bike shut off at a stop light as the light turns green! Butt pucker time!

Next service, use 10w 40 in the primary instead of 20w 50. In most bikes this stops the drag on the clutch plates when cold, i've been using 10w 40 for 25 years now.

Nope, read it again. The bike was in first gear.

You should try starting in gear with the clutch released! That always fun.

Yep, you are correct. My late night brain only registered his first sentence.
Thanks for pointing it out. Gotta learn to pay better attention when I'm falling asleep at the keyboard.

In any case, my bike will do that little lurch even if it's in neutral and cold. It's done it from the day it was new so I never worried about. I just make sure to hold the front brake and all is good.

The only way I've found to stop the lurching is to park the bike in neutral, but then you gotta worry about it rolling away and falling over. I guess I'll put up with a little lurch once in a while. Happy riding!

No, it was in first gear with the clutch lever pulled in.

Why put undue stress on the starter?

Always start in neutral with clutch lever and front brake engaged. Covers all the bases. Minimal amount of stress on starter and battery.
