Default Learning Curve

Had the 07 UC for bout three weeks now. Going from an 01 with the 88 and 5 speed to the 96 with 6 speed is a little bit of a learning curve with shifting and RPMs. Still figruring out the best shift rpm for fuel efficiency, but more importantly not lugging by keeping rpm to low. Only had it 6th once doin 65+ and it was sweet. 2500 range on the 01 seemed to be the sweet spot, thinking it should be the same on the 07. I know I have seen posts on this topic but must not be selecting the key word. Just turning 55, no problem being back in school for this opic.

Default don't lug

I had a similar transition. I found myself initially using 6th gear because it was there. Unless I'm on a freeway I have found the sweet spot on my 07 to be around 2700 rpms in 5th around 60 mph. sounded a little high in the rpm initially but I have power if i need it without having to downshift. Motor just sounded like it was lugging in 6th. My mpg's per tank is low 40's.

The book for my bike says to shift into 6th at 55mph. No mention of rpm. But I've noticed when I shift into most all gears, it's around 2400rpm and that's getting to normal speeds.

Funny, I just shift shen it feels right. I don't usually shift while looking at the tach. Downshifting the same. Kind of a feel for the right gear. If i'm lugging-downshift.
