Due to ache in between my shoulders on upper back, while riding long distance, I'm going to go with a heritage softail handlebar or 12 inch apes. Anyone install a heritage softail handlebar on a Fatboy lo? What was the cost to have them installed with all the cables? And did it help?
Might want to look at a fat mini ape so you can run the wires inside. Might be tough on OEM Heritage bars. You are looking at $6-8 hundred in NC if you have it done and you get decent braided cables. Can't speak for Maine labor rates.
Have you thought about moving the bars towards you a little? They come down just enough which brings them closer to you, about an inch or so. Made all the difference to me and no shoulder aches. I can ride all day without pain.
I was looking at handlebars at the dealer the other day. The parts guy I spoke to said with bars, new cables, and 6 hours labor to install, including soldering electrical connections $1200 + or -. It's less if you don't have to do cables, which seems to be where the cost comes in.
I was a little suspect when I bought my Heritage. I had never had a bike with any kind of apes. You will be impressed with the comfort, it is so much better on your back and shoulders.
I put heritage bars (and 1.5" risers) on my Softail standard with no extensions but it was the highest I could go.
The bars are excellent.
I installed a set of 12" apes on my sportster, using a Burly cable kit for around $180. The job was easy, I took my time an spread it out over 2 or 3 evenings with no help. You could do it in 1 day no problem.
