White really seems to stand out. I notice it myself when riding... When I see a rider with a white helmet it really shows, even if his bike is dark and his jacket is black.
My next helmet will probably be white in fact... A matte/flat white and i think could be slightly cooler in summer too.
There's a place called 'webbikeworld' that has a lot of great information on products they've tested. This is a great web site and one of the most useful places (besides HDF, of course) on the www:
I've been doing some research on full face helmets and copied what they say about colors:
"Color
Helmet colors are a personal choice, but remember that the ability to be seen in traffic is one of the most important safety issues to consider. A rider's motorcycle helmet is usually the highest point on the motorcycle, so a bright color that is visible to traffic has the potential of going a long way towards increasing visibility.
Some motorcycle helmets were once available in a "Safety Orange" color that was helped make the rider really stand out in traffic. Unfortunately, the trend seems to be in the opposite direction; we've even seen motorcycle helmets available in a green or gray camouflage pattern. Our opinion is that these and other dark or matte helmet colors should definitely be avoided."
Here's the link to one of their reviews, for a Shoei TZ-R in a safety color: Probably an ugly color but surely visible.
I have worn a white helmet for years. WhenI ride in to work every day, it is normally still dark. To increase my visibility, I also cut flame decals from some 3M reflective tape and applied them to the helmet.
I was hit once back in '86. The classic "I didn't see him..." and turned in front of me. I will do anything I can to get the cagers to see me coming.
The pic is my going away party, taken the night before I left for Iraq. I also have reflective stips sewn vertically along the backside seams of my vest.
Don't think it really matters that much- I have one in yellow, one gray and 1 black, but they all have reflective tape on them in soime design so they glow in the dark when headlights shine on them.
I know white is really seen by motorists on the freeway. I wear a white helmet and when I approach traffic from behind they always slow down to the limit or less. It's worse when I ride the Blue Roadglide but it even occurs with my Red. I don't understand why they do that.

I was always under the impression white was the most visible and cooler in hot weather than a dark helmet.
Good points.
1. Police depts. across nation use white helmets most of the time.
2.We owned 2 black H-D helmets and bought 2white ones last year. Noticed a big difference right off the batwhile riding through NC mountains last summer.
