Seriously? I wear boots, jeans, gloves, a t-shirt (tank top?), helmet, glasses and gloves year-round, but having lived here my whole life, I see no need for leather jackets unless its cold. I have never ridden in sneakers, even a quick ride around my neighborhood after an oil change, and NEVER flip-flops.
Simple observations, not trying to get in your "business". I just know personally how unforgiving pavement is. When you get some miles under your belt you tend to look at things differently than the casual rider with limited seat time.
Since the most likely outcome of going down at 80 plus on the highway is death no matter what gear I have on, I'd rather be comfortable. Besides what does it matter to you guys?
+1! Thank you for stating it so perfectly. What is this deal with everyone pretending to care about what somebody else does in regard to their own safety?
IMO it all comes down to that common (and disgusting) human urge to control other people. I say, if you are not directly related to me you have no business "caring" about my safety or anything else about me. As the feminists might say - "keep your laws off my body!"
It amazes me too, the lack of protective gear worn by riders that i see. No helmets going down the interstate running 80 plus miles an hour wearing just t-shirts and jeans or even less! I DONT BELIEVE IN MANDATING HELMETS OR ANY OTHER SAFETY GEAR!!!!!! I personally just dont understand why anyone would not wear some sort of protection just in case they go down.
Actually you are much safer at 80 MPH on the interstate than you are running around town at 35. At least everyone (almost) is going the same direction that you are and at a similar speed.
It doesn't seem to me like the OP is criticizing anyone's choice of gear. He just seems to be trying to understand why so many in Florida make the choices they do. Why everyone seems to get so butt hurt when someone asks a similar question is what I'd like to know? If you don't have a legit answer to his question then why bother posting. It's as simple as that. As to the OPs question I'd say climate is the number one reason. If you went close to any of the military bases in Florida you'd see plenty of people in full gear. We have to or else the military won't cover our health care if we go down and we can also be charged under the military justice system.

I've known to many military that only wear it till they get off Base to buy into your argument.
