This year I splurged, i got a new $6.00 chair from Menards.....yeah it matched the color of my bike.
I always use silicone spray on my tents and the ground tarp too. When Packing the bike I use the ground tarp to wrap the Tent, Cot & chair in it. Then bungie the whole thing to the bike. There is no question that eveything is dry when I get there,
Just the ideas i was looking for some suggestions were good but for the price of some of these tents i might as well get a room

Yeah some tents are very pricey. I some how manage to get caught in the rain every time we go. I figure i don't too much tied up in my stuff, if I have to I can leave it..

BTW personlly I would not enjoy staying at Buffalo Chip. The less crowded out of the way camp grounds are better for me.
One year in Sturgis, I bought a bail of straw, and hauled it on the back of my softail and put it under my tent. We slept great all week.

I don't camp often anymore but I do carry excellent gear... My tent is Eureka 'BackCountry1' (one-man)... YOU want lightweight/durable/FREE STANDING/bathtub floor/3-season/excellent ventilation/max space for 1... Another good/similar tent is Alps Mountaineering Lynx1 and REI has some VERY good tents/deals... NOTE: My 'Eureka' tent/'NorthFace' sleeping-bag/ground-cover, all roll-up into one 'Event' waterproof 8"X14" stuff-sack and weighs 6.3# (and cost ~$300)... Camping gear AND CAMPSITES are not inexpensive... Did a XC trip to CO last Summer; 3 guys shared 1 Best Western suite (2 doubles/1 pull-out) for <$35/night ea. including; hot-tub/pool/exercise room/breakfast/bike-wipe-down-towels/showers/laundry/refer/air-conditioning/WiFi-Computer/etc. and every 4th night free... Can't be beat... Never needed/wanted the camping gear...

Get a 20 or 30 dollar walmart dome tent and a 10 dollar tarp to throw over the top of it. The rain fly usually sucks on those things. I used to use a 4 man dome tent but switched to a 2 man, it's small but the whole thing fits in my saddlebag. A sleeping bag, a mat of some sort and your coat for a pillow. Done.

I've dragged a smaller tent around for a bunch of years and camped at Sturgis several times ... Nothing fancy ... I think I got it at a Meijer store and spent around $40.00 on it ... It does the job and doesn't weigh a bunch ... Rolls up in a small package that's easily bungeed on the scooter ... "Frirewoman" made a couple of good points regarding waterproofing and keeping things away from the tent on the inside ... AND ... Don't touch the tent while it's raining ... easiest way to get a leak ... Along with a mat to sleep on and a Blow up pillow ( not to be confused with a blow up doll, unless you're real lonely ) and you'll be good to go ( Or should I say stop ) for the night or the week ... See you in Sturgis !!

If you're not in it for a vote on the Street Of Dreams you can try this-

I like "throw away" gear as much as possible.

A large blue tarp. http://www.ebay.com/itm/9-X12-Blue-6...9951%26ps%3D54
5-6 tent stakes http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-9-INCH-RUG...item485761f732

Flatten tarp out
Park bike on left or right edge of tarp
Using the bike as your center post, pull the tarp over it and tuck the remaining tarp back toward it.
Stake down any loose ends.

You have your bike and gear dry and safe, a comfy spot to sleep- add egg crate pad, sleeping bag, and voila- home sweet home.

If not, keep it simple.

I've used thr REI Half Dome two man tent for my bike trips and for back packing. Excellent quality, dry in the rain and can be set up in less than a minute . . . which means you remain dry even when pitching the tent when it's raining . . . which is when it truely counts!

Run over to Spearfish and pick up a $30 tent from Wallyowrld a, A tarp for $10 to go under it, $10 Sleeping bag, a $10 Air matress and a $8 chair and call it good. End of the week toss it. Thats what we did and had a great time. Cheaper than shipping plus way less hassel. Just keep your stuff off the edges as advised to keep the dew and rain out.

Cut your ground cloth slightly smaller than the tent's footprint. If your ground cover sticks out from under the tent, all it will do is collect water and trap it between the tent floor and the ground cloth. Being new to camping, I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun. I use a Kelty 9'x9', free standing dome. Very nice for two people. My 20 year old 7'x7' Eureka is barely adequate for two, but it's a luxury condo for one. Get the thickest sleeping pad you can afford/carry. I think 2" minimum. Here's a pretty good deal on a 2" Thermarest. They're self-inflating, but you can blow in a little more air to adjust for comfort:
