I have never worn any type of face mask but if it is real cold I wear a fleece neck gaiter that I can pull up over my chin.

What anyone wears is their own business but I have to admit some of the masks look a little silly on anyone over the age of six. When I was getting my wheel bearing fixed last weekend some guy pulled up on a Street Glide wearing a skull mask like this:

He had on the whole wardrobe--Harley-logo flannel shirt, Belt with HARLEY written in silver letters, chaps, harley boots, etc... The weird thing was, he didn't take the mask off when walking around. Even the regular pirate crowd at the dealer was looking at him like WTF?

Cool Face Masks! Yes or No?

Love this forum! Face masks are ok for the soft stuff and minor cold weather! I only like plain black, not much for skulls, flames, spider webs, and whatever. Helmets are better with shields or a windshield for freeway or winter riding, but for those of us that are too cool for a helmet or windshield, a do rag on the face will work!

Before all these cool masks, we took a bandanna, two squares of felt and laid out the bandanna, put the two squares of felt on it over lapping in the middle, folded it diagonally and sewed the two sides shut. Tie it around your face and voila! Bug and cold protection for 2 bucks.

That's a trick one of my soldiers showed me a few years back and been doing ever since when its chilly. I normally ride with a bandanna tied around my face because it does offer a wee bit of protection since I don't own a full face. I'm not into the whole skull/clown/whatever face wrap scene but that's up to the person wearing them, not me so I don't judge. Only time it bothers me any is when I see people walking around with them on still, just screams hokey in that case.

all of the above, plus I usually don't run a windshield so... sunburn, bugs and sand avoidance. I wear a bandana or mask or full face helmet or no head covering at all, depending on what I'm doing or where I'm going, time of day, time of year or weather conditions.

Lots of fashion police here, judging what everyone else wears. THERE ARE NO RULES. It's your face, cover it or don't.

If it's cold, or you don't run a windshield, they have a functional purpose. If you are a 1%er,they are worn for identity protection. So if it's 100* and the guy is riding a bike with a shield or fairing, don't ask him why he wears it.

I have been thinking about wearing one just to keep the bugs from blasting me. Half helmet doesn't protect you from that.
